3200hd Welder Wire Feed Motor Problem

  1. Weld-Pak 3200 HD- feed help!!

I have read through numerous other posts and can't seem to find what I need. I have a Lincoln Electric Weld-Pak 3200 HD that has VERY little use. I went to weld a small project yesterday and the drive wheel seems to not be functioning. The gun is working, and I am getting gas flow with activation of the trigger. But the wire will NOT feed at all. It doesn't seem as though it's moving, or even attempting to move. I can hear the solenoid clicking as I squeeze the trigger, but no feed. I talked to Lincoln's tech support, and I have 12V DC at the white/grey wires at the drive motor upon activation. So this tells me I am getting power to the motor. FYI, Lincoln wants $187 for a new drive motor/gear box as the answer... I can't fathom spending that much on a welder that is maybe $350 new.

My issue is that the welder has only been used 5-10 times very lightly and has not even had a full spool of wire run through it. Nothing appears corroded or in bad condition. I do not mind taking the drive motor assembly out and working on it/troubleshooting futher. Does anyone have any experience/suggestions as to a next step with this? THANK YOU in advance!!!

is the unit under warranty? can you see the drive wheels moving and they are just slipping over the wire?

Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...
I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......
You cant cure stupid..only kill it...

The unit is not under warranty anymore. I wish! The drive wheels aren't moving at all. I have take the tension off of the wire to see if that helps, still nothing.

since you dont use it much, very good chance its just corrosion on a connection or stuck relay since you put it away working....make sure you have voltage going to the drive motor when you pull the switch on the gun...

Thanks for the info. Yes, I have 12V DC when the trigger is pressed. I tested this voltage at the white/grey wires before they made it completely to the drive motor. I don't think there is corrosion on the connections at the motor, as none of the other spade terminals throughout appear to be corroded at all. I will check again though.

take out the drive motor and see if you can open it up to inspect the electrical connections, and apply 12 volts directly to the motor..its a process of elimination on what could be wrong, get some electronic connection spray, I use corrosion X and it works great for electrical connections cleaning any tarnish off contacts, I used it on the end switches( they were micro switches) of zone valves for heating that werent working, a few sprays and back in business...

Yes, I think this would be my best bet. Do you or anyone else on here have any drawings on how to remove this assembly? I'm sure I can figure it out once I get back home and dig into it, but just curious before I take a bunch of stuff apart that may not be necessary.

I have a lincoln sp100 , ...havent had any issues to take it apart yet..I would start with opening the case up and look for anything loose( electrical connections) to start off with
    where did you buy it?

I believe it was a big box store a few years back. Home Depot, I'm pretty sure.

well, you could always buy a new one and change out the drive motor if there the same..and return the new welder with bad motor...lol...just saying..not recommending...

haha why didn't I think of that... If that's the case, I should just buy a new one and put mine in the box and return it. I worked at Home Depot about 10 years ago. Trust me... it was done all the time!
